The asymmetrical bob is going nowhere

So we’ve seen it on the red carpet, but we are bringing it into the workplace now in an ever so classy way! The haircut that makes your dad look at you and say “did you have your head tilted during the haircut or does your stylist just need glasses.” Check out these amazing looks these celebs are sporting that are just so trendy for fall!

I had a lovely client and friend, Jensen Smith, who was more than happy to rock this cut. She does it with class and it looks great on her, check out her dramatic transformation. I absolutely love it!

Booties!!!

So here we are, it’s almost October! It’s time for fall fashion trends to emerge, like saaaay boots! Everyone loves a good pair of boots right! Well this season is sure to give you your fix. Ps.. The pointy toe… Yeah it’s back! Also my personal fave, thigh highs! Here are a few examples from fashion week of trends you’ve got to see!

These are following the ole steel toe trend. Love them so!

Lash Power!

I’m a huge advocate for false lashes.  It literally takes me 5 seconds per eye to pop a lash onto my lash line.  What I love about them is that they look so natural.  So natural, in fact, people believe they are my own.  I don’t feel the need to be creative with eye shadow or liner.  Sometimes, all I need is lashes, mascara on the bottom lash line and a simple lipgloss and I’m good to go!

My favorite pair of lashes to buy (sometimes in bulk) is Ardell Fashion Lashes  in the style of Demi Wispies.

 Image

Other than being very natural, they are not heavy for those that are not accustomed to frequent lash wear, like brides!  Give your lashes a makeover this fall with a natural pair of false lashes.

Iiiiiit’s BIRCHBOX Day!

Coming into the office Monday morning is always a complete drag. On this particular 9 am slug I came upon the cutest little pink box- yay!

Image

It’s Birchbox day!

In my August Birchbox I was happy to find:

Coastal Scents Eyeshadow. Claims that if I use these 4 different shades of eyeshadow just perfectly I will get an amazing summer smokey eye. Check out full size palette here.

Harvey Prince Fragrance. I recently updated my Birchbox profile to send me more fragrances. I love trying the new ones out! This “Eau Flirt” fragrance promises that is has been clinically proven to attract men with its wickedly irresistible fragrance. It smells nice, a little tangy for me (think Bath & Body Works body spray) but I’ll give it a shot!

Juice Beauty Oil-Free Moisturizer. This organic moisturizer hydrates with natural antioxidants and hyaluronic acid.  Hyaluronic acid sounds a little scary, but it is actually a chemical your body makes on its own! It is taken to help joint pain, and is rumored to help with anti-aging. I tried a little sample on the back of my hand- smells great and doesn’t feel oily. Check out this lightweight moisturizer here.

ModelCo Party Proof Lipstick. OKAYYY now we are talking. The only thing I love more than free fragrance samples are new lipsticks. I am too lazy to visit a beauty counter to try new brands, and many of the samples that Birchbox has sent me I have loved so much I bought the full size. This color is called Red Velvet and after trying it I am completely enamored- I love the classic blood red lip. This one tastes and feels like cherry Smackers. I highly recommend this- and for 3 tubes for $24 it’s a deal!

Tan Towel Self Tan Applicator. They usually throw stuff like this in and I never use it. I suppose it is a little moist towelette covered in self tan and I rub it on me to appear like I just had a magical vacation. I’m pretty proud of my fair skin, but maybe I’ll try it and get back to ya!

Let’s Tie the Knot

Look, if you’re going to get tied down at least do it fashionably…

It’s never too hot for me to slip into a scarf. But like any pairing worth maintaining, a girl has got to stray away from the mundane! I like to mix it up. Here are a few of my favorite ways to get tied down.

Image

The Muffler

It’s hot outside, you guys! Let’s keep fabric to a minimum. And if the heat has you too flustered, the Muffler is great because it only requires two steps. Fold a square scarf into a triangle. Drape it over your chest and tie it behind your neck. Boom! Like my kitty? I got this beast from the Peach Pit Vintage booth at Bad Granny’s Bazaar in the Plaza District. Meow!

Image

The Mod Muffler

This is a modern spin on The Muffler. Designed by the fabulously fierce Karli Alfson, this scarf is a stunner. Simply unclasp the scarf and wrap it around your neck. Lift up the first layer and clasp, cleverly hiding the hardware. Reposition the top layer over the clasp and do your best strut. You fancy, huh? (Psst… Love this scarf? Too bad! It’s the only one! Fortunately, Karli will make you one just a fabulous!)

Image

Infinity Double Loop

When I first moved to OKC, I discovered the Plaza District. Inside DNA Galleries, I also discovered my first girl crush. Her name is Shanna and she’s kind of a big deal. What does this have to do with scarves? Shanna Banana infinity scarves! They can be found at DNA, Blue Seven or on her Etsy. This is the first infinity scarf I purchased, and it’s kinda my jam. Place the infinity scarf around your neck with the inseam facing the back. Make a figure 8 in the front and put the bottom loop over your head. Adjust those loops to your liking and you’re good to go.

Image

Infinity Tripe Loop

It’s like the double… just add a loop. You know, for those who really like to be tied down. (And in case you’re wondering…This is also a Shanna Banana creation).

Image

Slip Knot

In the fall and winter, this is always my go-to tie. It’s perfect for longer and thicker scarves, like the magenta beauty pictured above from Aldo. Simply fold your scarf in half, wrap it around your neck and pull both ends of the scarf through the loop. Adjust the knot and you’re ready to go!

Image

The Knot-tie Knot

Let’s get a little knot-tie. Drape the scarf around your neck (I used one I got from Gap). Wrap each end around your neck, in opposite directions. Pull down the fabric touching your neck and make a figure 8. Then take each scarf end and pull through the loop, layering each end through the figure 8 you created. I like to leave one of the ends tucked through the loop and the other draped over. Sounds a bit tricky, but worth the end product.

Now, who said being tied down is boring?

Rosé, I Love Your Delicate Way

Recently one of my friends asked me what my “personal style” was, and after stammering and thinking of some fashion diction that might impress the crowd, I realized I couldn’t explain it with words.
I work with colors, shapes, moods, feelings, movement, and texture. Every morning I get inspired by a song, or a picture on instagram for what my #ootd will be. Every morning I look at my schedule to figure out what my personality I will be that day, what role I’ll play in society today.
Today one of my tasks was to explore the city looking for a beautiful garden to shoot in. I rarely wear pink, but was inspired to do so. My philosophical thoughts on pink led me to look up an old song by The Feeling.
My dream outfit keeps my legs open to the public, has comfortable shoes, and long sleeves. These are the things that make me happy. This is what I would have worn today if the internet was my closet. Roseh
My dream music has a powerful piano, beautiful lyrics, and verse I can put all my emotions into (my dsahboard). Here is what I’ve been listening to all day.

It’s my hair. I do what I want.

The Tali

I was never a fan of Hannah Montana. But I’m not too proud to admit that I did wear out my dad’s cassette tape of Achy Breaky Heart. Judge me all you want, but that was my jam back in elementary school. Don’t act like you don’t remember the words, or the mullet or the PE days we were forced to line dance to it…

Fortunately for Billy Ray, his daughter has distracted from his notably bad hair choices. But I have a feeling that somewhere the ghost of Billy Ray’s mullet is all achy breaky over the spotlight-stealing Miley cut. It’s younger, thinner and isn’t tied down.

Image

Carmen Crane working her wizardry. I’m only slightly terrified.

Love it or hate it, everyone is talking about it. Never one to shy away from trying new things, I decided to go under the razor and shave off most of my hair. Inspired by the Miley cut, I call mine the Tali cut. Because let’s be honest, redheads have the most fun.

Image

You know you’ve found the right hair stylist when you make matching duck faces. Duck faces=success.

Short hair has never scared me. But having my hair shaved off, that was terrifying. Razors are loud, you guys. And sharp. And final. I mean what happens if you don’t like it? Keep shaving? Amanda Bynes it–wig style? Grab an umbrella, Britney style, and attack anyone with a camera? Good thing I trust Carmen Crane with my life. If you guys don’t know, Carmen Crane with J & Co. Salon is a hair wizard. (Look, I know boys are wizards and girls are witches, but I prefer the word wizard. Love you long time Harry Potter, but give us girls a break.)

Accio my point! (That’s wizard speak for summoning my point.) Once I got over the sensation of being sheared (and after a glass or two of wine), all my fears subsided. Carmen did her magic and created the Tali cut! And I must say, it’s the best haircut I’ve ever had.

Image

The Tali. Like the Miley, but more feral.

Styling is super easy too, which is a huge bonus for my poodle-thick hair! All I have to do is blow dry my hair at the roots and tease in the desired direction. If I want to get fancy, I curl a few of the front strands for a more dramatic look. All that’s left is to apply some pomade (I prefer Woody’s because it’s water based and fun to say) and hairspray, and I’m all set!

Just be warned, if you decide to get the Miley or the Tali, you might kill a man. You know, cause they might blow up just looking in your direction…Oooooh woooh!

I can’t stop.

NARS Cosmetics lip gloss
$27 – asos.com

I will always and forever be a fan of black: black slacks, black shoes, black sunglasses, The Black Keys, black eyeliner, black cars…….  This summer, I’m having withdrawals from my go-to black tights.  Everything seems so loud, so bright, so….short (crop tops anyone?).  Not to mention, if you wear a bright orange dress every week, people will notice.  Working with a receptionist’s salary has taught me that black is my friend.  I can wear the same black pants 3 days a week and appear classic and demure. Now, while I would kill for a hot pink pencil skirt, I would be a fool to think that I could use it as a staple in my closet.
I’ve researched some black items that are anything but wintery.  Pinafore dresses are playful, feminine and are a relative of this year’s famous overalls.  Pair it with a sheer button-down, some open-toed platforms, and you’re a little less Alice and a bit more….I dont know, 20-something years old. These Foxy Platforms by Jeffrey Campbell are my absolute favorite shoes this summer.  I like to think of them as The Lita Convertable.  I also think you can do no wrong with liquid eyeliner and a nude lip any time of year.  Just stay away from braiding you hair….unless you’re part of the Adams Family.

Itch, Be Gone!

I traveled to North Carolina to partake in the Anderson Family Reunion festivities this weekend.  I thought I had everything packed, being that I landed with two extremely large duffle bags: one for clothes/shoes and another for hair and makeup supplies.

Unfortunately, forgot to bring my shampoo.  I was suffering from an itchy scalp and with these nails I have right now, I could not stop myself from scratching!  So, I took a 3am trip to Walgreens where a certain product caught my eye.

Image

It helps those with a dry and itchy scalp and also comforts the irritation of dandruff, eczema and psoriasis.  I laughed at myself because I noticed that I was scratching my scalp as I read the contents on the bottle.  So I bought it for $9.99.

Two reasons why I bought it?  One, there are no synthetic fragrances and two, the tea tree ingredient is really great for freeing the scalp of any buildup, stimulating the hair follicles resulting in hair growth. Who doesn’t want that?

After I returned home, I shampooed my hair with lukewarm water in the shower.  As always, I shampoo once, then shampoo a second time, achieving the proper lather.  And since I am a curly girl, I used a wide tooth comb to also detangle.  After rinsing, drying and styling, my hair felt amazing.  And the itch was gone!  Mission accomplished!
